BMW has officially unveiled the latest generation of its iconic M5, which now incorporates electrification, a first in the model’s 40-year history. This new addition marks the seventh generation of the M5 and represents a significant technological leap forward.
The 2025 BMW M5 integrates a powerful M HYBRID system that combines a traditional 4.4-liter V8 engine with an electric motor. This setup delivers an astounding 727 horsepower and 737 lb-ft of torque. The result is a breathtaking acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, blending BMW’s renowned driving dynamics with the efficiency and immediacy of electric power.
Visually, the M5 asserts a more aggressive posture, characterized by extended wheel arches, a redesigned front apron, and distinctive surfacing near the C-pillar. The interior of the M5 has not been overlooked, featuring luxurious M-specific enhancements that elevate the driving experience.
The M5’s advanced M HYBRID drive system is not just about power but also efficiency. The electric motor, seamlessly integrated into the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission, can produce up to 197 horsepower alone, allowing for an all-electric range of approximately 42 to 43 miles. This makes the new M5 not only faster but also more versatile in its performance capabilities.
Handling and agility are paramount in the new M5, equipped with adaptive M suspension and Integral Active Steering. The chassis adjustments ensure the car remains highly responsive and precise under various driving conditions. Complementing these mechanical advancements are cutting-edge driver assistance systems and the latest iteration of BMW’s iDrive system, based on Operating System 8.5, which offers an intuitive and richly interactive user interface.
BMW has announced that the all-new M5 will have its grand debut at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed in July, with production set to commence within the same month. While pricing and detailed availability remain under wraps, the anticipation among automotive enthusiasts and potential buyers is palpable.
This significant update to the BMW M5 not only enhances its performance and aesthetic appeal but also aligns with the industry’s shift towards sustainable and electrified mobility solutions. The M5 is thus set to continue its legacy as a benchmark in the high-performance luxury sedan market.
