Google Maps is enhancing its navigation capabilities for iPhone and Carplay users by introducing speed limits and a built-in speedometer, aiding drivers globally in maintaining safe driving speeds.
Google explains that the app’s speedometer “shows you how fast you’re driving on the road,” while speed limit alerts will notify drivers if they exceed the speed limit. This feature, which has been available to Android users since 2019, is now being extended to iPhone users.
First reported by TechCrunch, these features will be available when users begin navigation on Google Maps on their iPhones. To enable the speed limit indicators, users need to open the Google Maps app, go to Settings, navigate to Navigation, and select “Driving options.” When the feature is activated, the speed indicator will change colors to prompt drivers to adhere to the speed limits in their region.
The addition of speed limits and a speedometer on Google Maps for iOS is a significant update, offering iPhone-using drivers a valuable tool for safer and more informed driving.
